Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited wins Maharashtra 3G auction

Mumbai, 19 May, 2010

Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited (TTML) is pleased to announce that the Company has succeeded in winning the bid for 3G spectrum in the A Circle of Maharashtra with a bid value of Rs. 1257.82 crores.

The win in Maharashtra (and Goa) gives TTML access to the 3G spectrum for the next 20 years, and in this region of over 100 million people with very high growth potential including in rapidly growing areas such as Pune, Nasik, Aurangabad, Vasai and Nagpur, TTML will now be able to further consolidate its market leadership.

In Mumbai, which in comparison has a significantly smaller population of around 20 million people, TTML already has multiple telecommunication assets including its EDGE enabled GSM platform, substantial wireline broadband access infrastructure, and extremely successful wireless broadband services offered on the CDMA platform through the Photon+ offerings, all of which the Company will continue to very effectively leverage.

Expressing satisfaction at the outcome of the 3G auction, Dr. Mukund Rajan, Managing Director, Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited said, “Between our 3G win in Maharashtra, including Goa, and our very strong portfolio of GSM and CDMA wireless assets as also the strongest private wireline infrastructure in Mumbai, I am very bullish about TTML’s prospects going forward, and I am very confident that we will further consolidate our position amongst the top 3 operators in our geography.”
