REC signs multi-year contract with Airtel for Network Management services

REC ERP backbone becomes fully operational across 19 locations in India
- REC completes its largest IT roll out in response to emerging financial needs of the power sector
- Project to help transform REC’s finance delivery mechanism for the power sector
Bharti Airtel, Asia’s leading integrated telecom service provider, today announced completion of Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd (REC) project for end to end Network Management services. REC is a Navaratna Public Sector Enterprise with the Ministry of Power, Government of India. The contract agreement was signed in the presence of Mr. P. Umashankar (IAS), CMD REC and Mr. Manoj Kohli CEO & Joint Managing Director, Bharti Airtel. Also present on the occasion were Mr. B.P. Yadav, Executive Director (IT) REC and Mr. Sukesh Jain COO-North, Enterprise Services, Bharti Airtel.
Under the auspices of the agreement, Bharti Airtel will manage REC’s complete ERP backbone including the Data Centre and the entire network connecting Delhi Corporate Office and 18 Project/Zonal offices across the country. This State-of-the-Art set-up to facilitate a complete transformation of REC’s business functions across the organization. REC has already implemented an Integrated Enterprise Resource Planning solution automating all its major functions to achieve its Mission
This project will drive an Enterprise-wide solution which is aimed at achieving:
- Faster processing of proposals from borrowers which includes state power utilities, major private generation agencies etc
- Greater satisfaction to the borrowers
- Decision making support for the management
- Switch over from existing distributed legacy operation to an fully integrated automated and automated environment
- Towards achieving a paper-less processing environment

As part of the agreement, Bharti Airtel to supply, installation and manage the hardware Security and Network equipment and set up a Standby Server Center infrastructure and establishment of a state of art Level 3 Data Center co-located at Bharti Airtel facilities, to ensure adherence to RECL’s business continuity plans. The Managed Services mandate will also have Bharti Airtel offer Training and On-site Facility management services and set up a Helpdesk facility.
