OnMobile’s new RCS Phonebook connects Social Networks, Friends, and Contacts via Mobile Phone

New Delhi, 27 February, 2011

Comprehensive “social” address book enables users to securely live chat, receive presence updates and manage real-time status

OnMobile, the leading provider of telecom value-added services (VAS), today announces “RCS Phonebook” – a comprehensive and interactive user address book that synchronizes all contact information, including friends on social networks, into one central location for easy management and live access. The RCS Phonebook enables mobile providers to stay ahead of communication’s

shift to the Web, by offering its customers the ability to stay connected and communicate via live presence updates, live chat, and video streaming.

To get started with RCS Phonebook, a user initiates an invitation process before sharing information with contacts. This allows the user to quickly see what contacts are up to, and contact them via live video chatting, text chat, or the standard voice call. The chat feature, which has a dedicated tab within contact cards, allows users to initiate chats with one or more contacts and stores the chat history. RCS Phonebook also offers the luxury of real-time presence along with allowing users to post status messages such as ”in a meeting”, “on vacation”, or “free to talk”. These features are all accessible by an easy-to-use visual activity panel.

As people continue to move toward the Web to maintain their social relationships, carriers are challenged with finding a business model that works. Based on the Rich Communications Suite (RCS) and advanced architecture from OnMobile, the RCS Phonebook brings the power of Web communication, including social networks, back to the provider, and helps them stay relevant in a highly competitive market continuously experiencing user churn.

“The RCS Phonebook transforms a typical address book into a social information hub, where people can exchange and engage their contacts at a more interactive level,” said Arvind Rao, CEO, Chairman and Co-founder of OnMobile. “There are so many communication services that could be combined to make consumer’s lives easier, and we’re proud to be on the forefront of that demand.”
