Nokia Siemens Networks helps expand T-Mobile’s faster 4G network

Irving, Texas, USA, 17 July, 2011

  • T-Mobile’s 4G now twice as fast in more than 150 markets, available to more than 170 million Americans

  • Delivers potential peak speeds of 42 Mbps

Nokia Siemens Networks has upgraded portions of T-Mobile USA’s 4G (HSPA+*) network, the country’s most widely deployed 4G network. T-Mobile customers now have access to lightning-fast mobile broadband at potential speeds of up to 42 megabits per second (Mbps) in 152 markets covering 170 million people. The two companies showcased the 42 Mbps HSPA+ at CTIA Wireless 2011 in March.

“T-Mobile’s 4G network is now faster than ever before and continues to deliver a faster, more reliable broadband experience in more places than any other carrier,” said Neville Ray, chief technology officer, T-Mobile USA. “Nokia Siemens Networks’ Single RAN has helped us to enhance our existing network through a software upgrade with minimal impact to the existing network hardware.”

“By offering faster data speeds and low latency, we’ve helped T-Mobile deliver an exceptional 4G experience across a broad lineup of devices in the market,” said Andrew Chavez, head of the customer team at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Our Single RAN platform is already prepared for Long Term HSPA Evolution, providing operators a smooth evolution path to handle increased network traffic while controlling equipment costs.”

T-Mobile and Nokia Siemens Networks have been working together for more than a year to drive the standardization of Long Term HSPA Evolution – the evolution of HSPA in 3GPP beyond Release 10**. The new technology allows operators to extend the current capabilities of their mobile broadband networks and realize the full potential of HSPA technology.
