Telecom kiosk -- New licenses & spectrum allocation by DOT in 2008
The year 2008 added a new chapter in the Indian Telecom story. DOT issued a total of 120 new licenses for the 2G services. Indian market is one of the fastest and competitive market in the world today. The tarrifs are the lowest in the world and with new players coming in the tarrifs will reduce down further. It will be interesting to see how new players will position themselves to compete with the existing ones. Huge amount of foreign investment with global players like Etisalat, Telenor & NTT DoCoMo entering Indian market, billions of orders placed....so its all happening here. As of now no new player has started its operations so it will be interested to see the market changes when they do so. One of the reason is the slow allocation of spectrum by DOT to these companies.
