- Active wireless subscribers in VLR in Feb- 2011 is 562.98 Million
- Broadband subscription reaches to 11.47 Million in Feb-2011 from 11.21 Million in Jan-2011
Total Telephone Subscribers
- The number of telephone subscribers in India increased to 826.25 Million at the end of February 2011 from 806.13 Million in January 2011, thereby registering a growth rate of 2.50%. The share of Urban Subscriber has declined to 66.72% from 66.79% where as share of Rural Subscribers
- Subscription in Urban Areas grew from 538.38 million in January 2011 to 551.27 million at the end of February 2011. Rural subscription increased from 267.74 million to 274.98. The growth of Rural Subscription (2.70%) is higher than the Urban Subscription (2.39%). The overall Urban teledensity has increased from 150.67 to 154.01 and Rural teledensity increased from 32.11 to 32.95
Wireless Segment (GSM, CDMA & FWP)
- Total Wireless subscriber base increased from 771.18 Million in January 2011 to 791.38 Million at the end of February 2011 registering a growth of 2.62%. The share of Urban Subscriber has declined to 66.36% from 66.42% where as share of Rural Subscribers has increased from 33.58% to 33.64%. The overall wireless Tele-density in India reaches 66.36.
- Wireless subscription in Urban Areas increased from 512.26 million in January 2011 to 525.17 million at the end of February 2011. Rural subscription increased from 258.93 million to 266.21. This shows higher growth in Rural Subscription (2.82%) than Urban Subscription (2.52%). The Urban wireless teledensity has increased from 143.36 to 146.72 and Rural teledensity increased from 31.05 to 31.90.
- Private operators hold 87.90% of the wireless market share where as BSNL and MTNL, two PSU operators hold only 12.10% market share. The graphical presentations of market shares and shares in net additions of all the service providers during the month of February 2011 are given below:

VLR Data
Out of the total 791.38 Million subscribers, 562.98 Million subscribers were active subscribers on the date of Peak VLR for the month of Feb 2011. The total active VLR number excludes the CDMA VLR figure of BSNL, as the service provider has not provided the VLR figures corresponding to their total CDMA subscriber base of 5.37 million. The proportion of VLR subscribers is approximately 71.14 % of the total wireless subscriber base reported by the service providers. Circle-wise, Jammu & Kashmir has the highest proportion of VLR subscribers with 80.56% followed by Assam (77.74%) and Maharashtra (77.45%); Mumbai has the lowest proportion with 59.04%. Service Provider wise, Idea leads the tally with 92.65% closely followed by Bharti with 92.52%; MTNL is at the bottom with 36.16%.
Wireline Segment
Wireline subscriber base declined from 34.94 Million in January 2011 to 34.87 Million at the end of February 2011. The share of Urban Subscriber has increased from 74.77% to 74.87% where as share of Rural Subscribers has declined to 25.13% from 25.23%. The overall wireline Tele-density in India declines to 2.92 with urban and rural teledensity being 7.29 and 1.05 respectively. BSNL and MTNL, two PSU operators hold 82.71% of the Wireline market share. The graphical presentation of market share of all service provider as on 28th February 2011 is given below:

Circle wise Growth
From the below table, Circle B shows the highest net addition in wireless sector and Metro registers the highest rate of monthly growth from January 2011 to February 2011.

Total Broadband subscriber base has increased from 11.21 million in January 2011 to 11.47 million in February 2011, there by showing a growth of 2.34 %.
