Green Packet supplies WiMAX modems to Saudi Arabia's 4G operaotor GO

Kuala Lumpur, 26 August, 2010

Greenpacket, a leading developer of next generation mobile broadband and networking solutions, sealed a deal with Saudi Arabia’s first and fastest growing 4G operator, GO (Etihad Atheeb Telecom Co.) for its WiMAX modems.

GO holds a fixed line license on the 3.5GHz frequency spectrum across 13 regional divisions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and aims to revolutionize internet broadband services by bringing the latest telecommunications wire and wireless technologies to the Kingdom.

Greenpacket will be supplying GO with its high signal strength and VoIP supported WiMAX indoor modems to support GO in providing innovative, high performance and simple-to-use 4G WiMAX devices to its end-users.

Kelvin Lee, Senior General Manager of Green Packet said, “We are pleased to add GO to our growing portfolio of clients in the MEA (Middle East and Africa) region. It is even more exciting that GO is one of the region’s largest and fastest growing 4G broadband operators.”

He went on to say that end-user devices make up one-third of the WiMAX ecosystem to deliver a good user experience, hence the Operator’s success; the other two being the network infrastructure and applications. Lee says, “Of the three, end-user devices would be the most personal and tangible for the consumer, and Greenpacket takes great pride in serving up both the best function and form for its range of award winning devices across the three frequency bands.”

Since GO launched commercial services in 2009, the new entrant officially ended the monopoly on fixed-lined services in Saudi Arabia and liberalized the sector after it acquired a license to provide fixed services in the country.

Saad Abu Odeh, Chief Commercial Officer of GO said, “Greenpacket’s WiMAX modems support GO’s future growth plans with their best-in-class performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness, these attributes give GO an advantage in a highly competitive broadband market. Reinforcing our decision is Greenpacket’s strong product roadmap and demonstrated extensive customer support which proves their commitment to excellence, and through this collaboration we look forward to provide pioneering 4G solutions in Saudi Arabia.”

Within the MEA region, Greenpacket is building a strong reputation amongst WiMAX operators, and is involved in deployments and trials with more than 20 operators in key economies like Bahrain, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria and Libya. There are a total of 26 WiMAX operators in 11 countries in the region with three other operators expected by end 2010. Senza Fili Consulting, a wireless data technologies and services advisory, has estimated that there will be 10.8 million WiMAX subscribers in the region generating about USD288million in service revenues by 2014.
