America Movil’s Puerto Rican Subsidiary Launches Synchronica-Based Claro Messenger Service
Royal Tunbridge Wells, 18 May, 2011

América Móvil subsidiary Claro Puerto Rico has launched Claro Messenger, a mobile Instant Messaging (IM) service that is powered by Synchronica’s device-agnostic IMPS platform. Claro Messenger is a carrier-owned and branded IM community which allows |
Claro’s customers to exchange instant messages with each other using their mobile phones or the Claro website. The service acts as a churn inhibitor because users tend to become highly dependent on an IM identity which would be lost should they move to a competing network operator.

Synchronica has deployed Claro Messenger to each América Móvil subsidiary as part of a group-wide framework agreement. The agreement provides Synchronica with a key recurring revenue stream and unrivalled access to one of the largest and most important mobile markets worldwide.
Subscribers can register for the service by visiting the Claro Messenger website at: http://www.clarotodo.com/Default.aspx?SecId=469 , or by simply navigating to the Claro Msngr icon in the WAP menu of their phones.
Commenting on the launch of Claro Messenger in Puerto Rico, Synchronica CEO Carsten Brinkschulte says: " Claro Puerto Rico has a high proportion of prepaid subscribers in what is one of Latin America’s fiercest markets. As a service, Claro Messenger fosters customer loyalty, and we’re thrilled to have once again worked closely with América Móvil to host and launch this churn-busting service."
With an extremely competitive mobile sector, Puerto Rico enjoys some of the highest rates of teledensity, mobile penetration and Internet availability in Latin America. As mobile carriers search for ways to encourage customers to diversify their mobile habits beyond SMS and MMS, Pyramid Research expects that there will be a renewed focus on data-centric products, and that 3G technology will account for 82 percent of Puerto Rico’s total mobile subscriptions by 2015.
