Alcatel-Lucent (Euronext Paris and NYSE: ALU) announced today that Telekom Austria, the largest telecommunications company in the country, has adopted the Alcatel-Lucent Triple-Play Service Delivery Architecture ( TPSDA) to bring smaller communities the same triple play services today provided to customers in larger metropolitan areas. Alcatel-Lucent’s solution will provide Telekom Austria with the bandwidth, scale and service awareness required to support the growing market for more personalized broadband services such as “aon TV,” the service provider’s IPTV offering. |
“The rollout of the 2nd mile Ethernet aggregation network with Alcatel-Lucent Service Routers enables us to confidently and economically offer converged data, voice and video applications throughout the whole country, to the furthest reaches of the network, over a single and homogeneous platform,” explained DI Walter Goldenits, CTO Telekom Austria. “Transforming our network to all-IP give us the opportunity to offer advanced services such as High speed Internet, Voice over IP, business services and mobile backhaul for 3G and LTE, all with the highest possible reliability and quality of service standards.”
The foundation of the Ethernet aggregation network is the Alcatel-Lucent TPSDA supported by the new high-performance 7750 SR-c12 multiservice IP/MPLS router, optimized to meet network and service delivery requirements at smaller locations in the network. This Service Router solution, which maximises return on investment by consolidating all services and networks onto an integrated IP network, is also coupled with the Alcatel-Lucent 5620 Service Aware Manager (SAM) and 5650 Control Plane Assurance Manager (CPAM), allowing Telekom Austria to minimize management and operating expenses.
Alcatel –Lucent will leverage its services expertise in the areas of project management, software subscription, support and repair maintenance and technical support services to deliver an unmatched Triple-Play Service Delivery network.
“Our scalable solution offers Austria Telekom much greater network reliability and agility to aggregate and backhaul traffic loads, thus minimizing our customers’ total cost of network ownership,” said Mag. Harald Himmer, head of Alcatel-Lucent business in Austria. “The high performance, unmatched Ethernet density and reliability of the Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router, together with our long lasting relationship with Telekom Austria, were critical decision factors for its network transformation.”
The Alcatel-Lucent Service Router portfolio is now deployed at 26 of the top 30 carriers worldwide and thanks to it more than 300 service provider networks in over 100 countries have been deployed since 2004. The strength of Alcatel-Lucent’s IP Services Router portfolio has been underlined by the latest market share figures published in Dell'Oro Group’s Routers Report 4Q09. According to the report, Alcatel-Lucent increased its share by 5% in the service provider edge category solidifying its number two position with over 20 percent market share.
