Alcatel-Lucent’s 100G Optical Solution Certified for Russian Telecommunications Networks

Moscow, Russia, 18 May, 2011

Alcatel-Lucent today announced that its next-generation system, the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 Photonic Service Switch (PSS), successfully passed testing within the Russian telecom certification body.

The Certificate of Conformance confirms that the Alcatel-Lucent solution fully complies with the requirements of the Russian telecommunications authorities and can be deployed in Russian networks.

Featuring 100G next-generation coherent technology, the Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS helps service providers to cost-efficiently address the booming demand for more bandwidth driven by video streaming, web applications and cloud services.

“We are committed to help Russian service providers to be fully equipped to meet an explosive growth of demand in network capacity” said Alexander Tikhonov, head of Alcatel-Lucent’s business in the CIS. “Alcatel-Lucent’s innovative optical networking portfolio and its experience in network transformation enable service providers to cost efficiently develop their networks towards higher capacities in a fast, sustainable and reliable way.”

The product meets the requirements for higher network speeds and performance for both network operators and large corporate customers in strategic industries. Enabling significant increases in network capacity and operational efficiency, it minimizes the total cost of ownership (TCO) of the transport infrastructure and provides a seamless upgrade path for existing networks to 100G as it ensures full compatibility with lower 10G and 40G optical channels.

Alcatel-Lucent 1830 PSS is a major component of Alcatel-Lucent’s Converged Backbone solution, a key domain of the Alcatel-Lucent High Leverage Network™ (HLN) architecture, to slash transport costs and dramatically reduce operational complexity in core networks.
