Synchronica plc, the international provider of next-generation mobile messaging solutions, has received a purchase order from a tier-1 device manufacturer, to certify and license Synchronica’s IMPS instant messaging client. |
The purchase order follows a September 2010 mandate from a tier-1 Latin American mobile operator group, which requires that device manufacturers certify their native clients or pre-install Synchronica’s IM client onto their mobile devices. This is now the fourth ‘top-10’ device manufacturer to place an order with Synchronica to satisfy the operator's device certification requirements.
Synchronica expects to receive further orders in the future from device manufacturers who wish to sell their devices to the operator, in addition to receiving repeat orders as device manufacturers launch new models of their handsets.
With 15 million new subscriptions added during the second quarter of 2010, the Latin American market grew some 28 per cent in 2010, beating the global average of 17.9 percent. The region has overtaken Western Europe to become the second largest mobile market after the Asia-Pacific region, and is acknowledged as a very important high-growth market for device manufacturers. By 2015, almost four out of every ten Latin American subscribers will use mobile broadband services to connect to online resources.
Operators are facing a growing threat from premium device manufacturers who are increasingly marketing device-specific services to establish a direct relationship with end-users. This controversial strategy is increasingly resisted by operators as it dilutes their relationship with the subscriber. Synchronica's IM service provides a vendor-neutral, operator-owned instant messaging system which binds users to the brand and puts the operator back in control of its value-added services portfolio.
Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO of Synchronica, comments: "This is the fourth ‘top-10’ device manufacturer to certify their products for our award-winning Instant Messaging infrastructure. We are pleased to see top-tier device manufacturers certifying their handset for use with Synchronica’s IM platform and we expect a faster take-up rate for the service as a result. The fact that the tier-1 latin American mobile operator group is mandating its device partners to comply with device certification underlines the strategic value of our product, and the success they are realising with it in their markets."
